Further to my email. The single call is short 1-2 sec and not repeated immediately. There were at least 3 frogs I heard. The call is made by a frog then the next time it calls is usually >10-20 secs later.

Hope this helps.

I have been checking the very useful http://frogs.org.au/frogwatch site without luck so far.

Hi all,

I have been meaning to ask whether anyone can help me to id a frog call I heard along a dry creek bed in Yatteyattah NR (near Milton, SE NSW) on 7 March 2009.

At first I thought it was my stomach making noises then when I got closer it was coming from the rocky muddy slope of the creek bed. This is in dry, subtropical rainforest.

From a distance the short call sounds like a chainsaw almost. The call duration is quite short, maybe no more than a second or two.

I would be grateful if anyone could give me some clue as to the species involved.

Thanks

Marnix
