Hi Martin, the rainfall at Canberra Airport for summer was slightly above average.  I know it feels like a dry summer because most of that rainfall occured in December, with January and February both being generally dry (only 6mm in the final 5 weeks of the season).  It was the driest February in 14 years and the 14th hottest February out of 70 years of records.

I find the current weather pattern very reminiscent of our first year in Canberra (1983) which featured a very dry, hot Summer and then bucketted down from Easter to Christmas.  Here's hoping.

During our monthly U3A birding outing this morning a G-c G was seen on the 'back' pond at Kelly's Swamp.   Certainly the high-light of the day as was the presence of water.

And on Sunday, when we were taking a US visitor around to the once good spots we were astounded to see that nearly all of our old favourite places are in very bad condition, eg trees dying at Uriarra crossing, the Uriarra homestead dam almost dry, very low water levels at Tidbinbilla, pond at Namadgi Info Centre dry,  and then Kelly's almost dry, too.  Did somebody say 'There will be a wet autumn'?
