Dear Frank and other birders,

Birds Australia has partnered with the Australian Museum to set up and maintain
the Birds-in Backyards (BIBY) program of on-line resources and educational
outreach activities. The includes bird identification facility at least as
comprehensive as that of RSPB. There are currently 343 birds described. These
are concentrated on east coast species as BIBY started in NSW. It is now being
expanded by Birds Australia around Australia. As this happens birds in the new
areas of BIBYs activities are being added and eventually there will no doubt be
all Australian birds listed (I sent in 3 new bird data sheets this week!).

This excellent facility (it won a Eureka award last year) can be accessed at
http://www.birdsinbackyards.net/finder/. One can access the bird by name, or
scroll through all birds on the site , or, and more importantly, one can put in
the colour of the bird, and/or pick a shape and/or pick a distinctive feature.
A search engine will then produce a list of birds matching the search criteria.
A great facility and form Frank's e-mail clearly one that deserves to be better
known in the birding community.

Regards
Peter Marsh
