.Hi,

The Conservation Council is creating a booklet titled "Gungahlin's Treasures - a guide to interpreting the regions heritage". The point of the booklet is to get local residents to become interested in their area and to get out and explore. The Council is in need of some local knowledge about the nature parks of Gungahlin including information on plants and animals within these areas.

They believe they have sufficient detail on Mulligans Flat and Goorooyarroo Nature reserves from existing COG literature but information is required on the surrounding reserves such as Percival Hill, Gungaderra Mulanggari and Crace Grasslands, Gungahlin Hill and other areas such as the local urban ponds e.g. Yerrabi Pond.  Those responsible for creating the guide are not familiar with these areas and our local knowledge is of great interest to them.

The following are examples of  the topics that the Conservation Council is trying to obtain information about:

 - Information on and photos of charismatic birds, common birds likely to be seen and threatened/vulnerable birds. ( a couple of examples for each category only are required.)

 - It would be great if the information could include which of the sites in Gungahlin that are best for seeing each of the featured birds. i.e. Crace Grasslands is the best spot in Gungahlin to see the ...

 - A paragraph on threats to bird life.

Whilst the Conservation Council is especially interested in what we know about birds, they suspect COG members have a fairly broad knowledge of the area and habitat so they would welcome information on plants, reptiles and insects etc. More broadly, they are interested in:

 - Examples of particularly nice or interesting areas (and how to get there!)

 - Pest species (plants and animals)

 - Anything else that we think the general public might find interesting, especially short, unusual facts that could be featured as "Did you know?" questions. e.g. facts about human impacts, threatening processes, species behaviour.

If anyone is able to help with any areas of interest within Gungahlin please send the information directly to me and I will ensure it is collated and sent to the Conservation Council.  The Council would like any information to be received by the first week in March.

Many thanks,

Chris Davey (President)
