This morning 7am eight Superb Parrots ( 1 male, 2 juveniles, 5 females) were feeding on the rough growth that is starting to hay off on the median strip of Bindubi Street in Cook.
The juveniles that had been begging very noisily in the trees became quiet and busy once they were on the ground, and they kept tripping over the stalks of Windmill grass.
It was difficult to see what the birds were choosing to eat but they seemed to be grazing in general rather than concentrating on anything in particular. I went down later to have a closer look and found most of the plants were bearing seed:

Windmill Grass (Chloris truncata)

Redleg Grass (Bothriochloa macra)

Button grass (Dactyloctenium radulans)

Grassland Wood Sorrel (Oxalis perennans)

Vittadinia muelleri

Willowherb (Epilobium billardiaerianum)

Speargrass (Austrostipa sp)

Cudweed (Euchiton sp)

Euphorbia sp

Clustered Clover (Trifolium glomeratum)

Haresfoot Clover (Trifloium arvense)

Plantago

Wild Oat

Flatweed (Hypochoeris radicata)

Common Sow-thistle ( Sonchus oleraceus)

African Lovegrass

Capeweed

Wild Turnip

Centaury

This is a rough and ready list - accuracy isn't guaranteed
