Well, it's all right for some, waiting by the pool for the birds to parade! For those in the unfortunate situation of having to work for their birds though, there were about half a dozen Little Lorikeets whizzing around the eastern boundary of the first paddock at the Newline woodlands this morning. No obvious flowering and they didn't stay - probably off for a pool party.

good birding for 2009, all.

While I was sitting on the deck enjoying the cooler temperatures this evening, a female Superb Parrot flew into my neighbour's Silky Oak and stayed for 35 minutes, at first just sitting, trying to avoid being blown off the branch.  Once the wind died down, it fed on the flowers.  Then 2 tiny parrots flew into an adjacent flowering gum - Little Lorikeets, quite distinctive with their red faces.  They didn't stay long before zooming off towards the east.  Worth looking out for in all the flowering at present.
