I
really luv the name 'saveourwaterbirds'. That's what duck hunters have
been doing for over 100 years in Australia. Similar to farmers being the
only true conservationists - remember the diff between conservation and
preservation. They want the land to be there for their kids (well used to
anyway before it turned into a multi-national business chain) just like duck
hunters want the ducks to be there for their kids. If you save the ducks
well isn't everything else in the swamp gunna benefit?
How
many private and public swamps have been saved, reclaimed, regenerated
or had natural flows restored in NSW/ACT? How many nesting boxes have been
put up and maintained in swamps? How many waterfowl counts have been done
on a regular basis? How much pest mitigation has been done? How much public
education has been done?
Victoria has the popn density to make a diff.
I.e. NSW is big enough that you can just go shoot as many ducks as you want now
cos it's illegal anyway or legal under pest control. Just ask the USA -
prohibition works! Out of sight out of mind suits the pollies i
spose. Yet you have to pay to catch a trout in NSW, a feral
animal!!!???? Good to see we like to add to the value of our natural
resources.
So
cmon, sign the petition, get it banned in Vic and we'll all go and spend our
money in NZ. The regional areas in Australia are doin fine, they don't need
tourism.

persuade Victorian Premier Brumby to ban the recreational shooting of native
waterbirds permanently or at least call another moratorium in
2009. This is very quick and
simple. Click on - www.saveourwaterbirds.org - fill in your
name and address and then click ‘Send email to
Brumby’.
The Victorian
government will make a decision on the 2009 recreational duck shooting season
sometime in December, probably before Christmas. The shooters are desperate
for another season and are pushing very
hard. The recreational shooting of native
waterbirds was cancelled in Victoria in 2007 and 2008 due to low waterbird
numbers and drought. Conditions have not improved.
Thank
you.
