I made what I think was my 6th visit to the Jerra wetlands today in search of
the Spangled Drongo, which I had heard a few days earlier with Alastair and
Steve, but not seen. I finally caught up with the elusive beast near the seat
between Fulica & Tadorna hides (where Martin saw the bird). For one so
previously elusive, it decided it would perch on a dead tree about 3 metres
from the ground, and about 6 metres from me, and just sit there for a couple of
minutes, giving me what was quite possibly the best view I've ever had of a
drongo anywhere! Of course, I wasn't carrying my camera....but then I probably
wouldn't have seen it if I was ;~}
Other species that I might just mention briefly......two very active
White-winged Trillers near the bridge, grass-carrying Red-browed Firetails, 4
Shelduck on Kellys, [some white birds with funny headresses that I've reported
to Martin], 1 Great Egret, 1 Brown Falcon (first I seen at Jerra for some
time), about 150 Grey Teal, 100 Hardhead & 60 Shoveler at the FSP (higher
numbers than I noticed for a while), but only 2 Pinkears and 5 Bluebills.
Regards
Frank Antram
