Morning all
Back from the mid north coast - good birding (mostly in my father's garden). Little wattlebirds and lorikeets (rainbow, scaly breasted), white headed pigeons, doves, the odd kingfisher, satin bowerbirds including an adult male, king parrots and easterns, pied butcherbirds, yellow robins and a multitude of kookaburras frequent his garden every day. Heard a koel calling in the tall eucalypts across the road and spent a long time trying to sight that darn whipbird with no success.  Did get good views of a male scarlet honeyeater on Queen's Lake foreshore, also one lone royal spoonbill .

Being drenched on a catamaran by the spray generated by a humpback whale thumping his/her tail down less than maybe 20 metres away (they followed the cat and we had to move  away from them several times as they were coming in too close) was definitely a highlight! Managed to get a reasonable photo before covering the camera.  This was in the open ocean off Port Macquarie.

Closer to home - two rainbow lorikeets foraging on my back lawn  this morning - possibly the pair reported nesting on Farrer Ridge? One was unusually brightly coloured on the shoulders - vivid orange and purple colouring instead of the usual paler yellow and blue.

Regards

Chris Hastir
