I found this whilst looking for other information and thought it might be of interest to some subscribers, considering that reporting of platypus has been occasional on this list over the years (including a recent photo) and as birdwatchers, we probably get out and about around our natural waterways more than most in the community:

Platypus Watch launches in the ACT

28 October 2008

Do you walk or cycle along the rivers on a reasonably frequent basis?  Would you like to keep a look out for platypus?  The platypus is one of Australia's most iconic animals.  However, very little is known about how this unique mammal is actually faring in rivers and creeks in and around the ACT.  To address this issue, ACT Waterwatch and the Australian Platypus Conservancy are joining forces to monitor this fascinating species and are looking for volunteers to help.

ACT Waterwatch will be hosting an information session about the new community-based platypus monitoring program on Monday 10 November at 7:30pm at the Queanbeyan Council Rooms. Contact Tanya Noakes for more information:

We can now return to our usual avian postings.
