Hi John,
I watched a young male Satin Bowerbird practicing his moves without a bower at
Bunya Mountains in Queensland. He was not old enough to have adult plumage, so
less than about 5 years of age (I understand that the males don't get their
blue plumage until the age of about 5). I haven't observed a full adult male
displaying away from a bower - but they might! :) Unfortunately I haven't had
a huge amount of time to watch them. My friend Glen Threlfo would know but
I've lost contact with him.
