Yesterday afternoon I watched some interesting gang-gang behaviour in the
rear car park at my work.
Over the past month or two a pair of gang-gangs have shown passing interest
in a hollow in a large euc by the car park. Yesterday as I was walking to
my car at 5pm there was an almighty racket.
Three pairs of gang-gangs were what seemed to be fighting over this one
hollow. One pair was busy inspecting the hollow. Every so often another
male would get too close and the male would chase it off. Sometimes the
female would join in too.
All the while the trio of males kept up a constant screeching/creaking.
While this was going on I was able to approach very close and stand under
the tree.
Other people leaving work were also spellbound.
This morning I didn't see any movement at the hollow but I could hear that
the gang-gangs were still in the neighbourhood. I will check regularly to
see whether they actually nest.
On another note over the past one to two weeks many of the eucs and
ironbarks at my work were flowering and attracting many wattlebirds,
friarbirds and migrating yellow-faced and white-naped honeyeaters.
Most seemed to have passed on by now.
Cheers
