This timing of this posting - ie just before Chris' presentation at
tonight's meeting - is quite coincidental.
I attended a briefing this morning on the plans for revegetation for the
section of the Molonglo which was cleared of willows recently, leading
at the time to considerable discussion on this line. The intent - for
which there is actually funding for the next three years - is to plant
Phragmites (ie reeds) in the water, grasses and sedges on the edge,
shrubs local to the area and 540 trees, comprising a mixture of local
eucalypt species and Casuarina cunninghamiana.
My impression is that in the long run it will produce a much more
bird-friendly environment than was previously there.
However, I'm sure Chris will have more info tonight.
cheers all
Ian
