As most people would be aware, Birds Australia has recently adopted the species list set down in Christidis and Boles 2008 ("Systematics and Taxonomy of Australian Birds") as its working Checklist.

On the assumption that COG will likewise follow suit in due course, a number of changes to COG'S Checklist will become necessary. These changes will reflect differences between the present COG Checklist (which is available on the COG website) and either the English Name or the Scientific Name or in some cases both names, as used in Christidis and Boles.

The COG Checklist has a main listing of 282 species, with a further 38 species included in a supplementary list. The changes in Christidis and Boles affect 49 species (17%) on the main list and 7 (18%) on the supplementary list.

In case it is of some use or interest, I have listed below the changes that will become needed when COG also adopts Christidis and Boles 2008 as the basis for its Checklist of the Birds of the Austalian Capital Territory.

Regards,
Bruce

PS For those who don't have the book, the full Christidis and Boles species list is now available for download from the Birds Australia website.
