Here in Hawker, we had several sightings in our garden last year for

we've just seen one again today. In all cases, female.
Wendy et al,
How does one differentiate male from female when not in breeding
colours? A few weeks back I had a good look at the bower and
associated male in 'The English Garden' just near Yarralumla Nursery
and he was what I had always thought of as the traditional female (or
immature male) colour of the olivey green. Given there have been
reports there of the bower for a couple of years I am assuming he was
an adult male, and therefore assuming (perhaps incorrectly) that
they're not in breeding colour at this time of year?
I wouldn't mind seeing them in my garden as I love their calls,
although I would have to hide the blue pegs. <grin> There was a
large assortment of blue items around the bower near Yarralumla
Nursery. I have some not particularly wonderful pics if anyone is interested.
Cheers.
