Hi Everyone,

Last night I spotted a road-killed Boobook owl on Uriarra Road, only 20m or so from the junction with Cotter Road. I was very sorry that it had been killed, but it gave me an opportunity to observe one of these magnificent owls at close quarters. It has very fine feathering on short, stocky, powerful legs, and it was smaller in the hand than I realised. I can now see how closely it resembles the Christmas Island Hawk Owls, which are a close relative.

Cheers,
Beth Mantle
