Last week and again yesterday, a
friend and I observed Musk Ducks at Yerrabi Ponds.
Yesterday was quite a
performance. First observed on the Western side towards the dam wall from
the vicinity of The Waterfront two splashing males, one pursuing the other
right up the far side and under the foot bridge followed by at least two
circuits of the upper pond. They would take a breather about every fifty
meters or so, the lead male moving along with its head turned sideways so that it
could keep an eye on its pursuer. Every time the pursuer resumed away
went the pursued. Both appeared to be mature males. Later in the
upper pond we also observed two females and then a younger male which was seen
off by one of the older males.
