A friend commented to me today that she saw an adult raven pick up a golf ball and take it to an area of soft dirt, dig a hole, put the ball into it and then cover it over with dirt.

 

Is that normal behaviour?  Perhaps the golf ball (egg!) needed to ‘ripen’ a bit before it could eat it!
