As threatened, this is a little
more on the ‘wing coverts tipping’ issue. I won’t
repeat what is in HANZAB, but I’d draw attention to the illustrations in
vol 7B p 1816. There the tipping/barring is shown as a , possibly the,
major field mark. Below at ‘L’ is my larger/duller
bird. ‘S1 – S3’ are my 3 smaller birds, possibly the
same one but on this evidence apparently different. The bar is most
pronounced in S2, but I would not be confident which species any of these belong
to. I pity the observer who gets only a fleeting glimpse of a thrush in those
parts! Your determined ticker will, I suspect, remain undaunted, or accept
the word of his ‘guide’.
