We live at the western edge of Kambah.

About 8 years ago, when the garden matured we were visited by a couple of White-Eared honeyeaters for the winter. For four winters they were "kings of the castle" until the New Hollands moved in. The white ears then came for shorter and shorter periods while the New Hollands stayed all year. They are now into their fourth year - a pair who manage to reproduce and keep a juvenile for the remaining year. They occasionally have relatives call in but not on a permanent basis.

I was so pleased to see a white-eared honeyeater turn up today - go straight to the water and act as if he had been here before. I am sure it is one of the originals and I hope he manages to put up with the aggression from the New Hollands.

Like most white ears, he's pretty fearless and allows you to get VERY close.

I wonder how old he is?
Cheers
