Yesterday (Saturday 5 April), I was at West Macgregor (where building of the
new Brindabella suburb is now well underway) from 10am - 11am and YFHEs were
constantly passing overhead in small flocks. Hundreds, if not thousands, of
birds must have been involved. I alao noted small groups passing over my
backyard in Macquarie on Saturday afternoon.
Today (Sunday 6 April) at Jerrabomberra Wetlands, YFHEs were also passing
through, but in much smaller numbers (a few dozen or so). Other migrants seen
were an Olive-backed Oriole (very vocal and indulging in a lot of mimicry), a
female Satin Flycatcher (fairly certain it was Satin rather than Leaden),
Horsfield's Bronze-cuckoo, Rufous Whistler, plus the usual ducks, etc (14
Blue-bills). Only raptors were a Whistling Kite and a Brown Goshawk.
Regards
Frank Antram
