On Saturday, while wondering through a block of woodland up on Cooleman Ridge, I stumbled across a roosting Southern Boobook, Ninoz novaeseelandiae (see photo attached below). It was fairly unimpressed with my attempts at photography, and allowed me to within 3 metres of itself. An amazing experience until it flew away in its interesting 'bobbing' style of flight.

This morning (Sunday), the family went out to Square Rock/Smokers Gap in Namadgi NP. Present was a Flame Robin, White-throated Treecreeper, lots of Spotted Pardalotes, Striated Thornbills, Grey Fantails, a pair of Grey Currawong, a Black Rock Skink, three Small Alpine Xenicas and lots of Marbled Xenicas. However, the undoubted highlight was a pair of Spotted Quail-Thrush in what I thought was rather interesting habitat for them (side of path near grassy bog, although there was some granite rocks). The female flew off, but 20 minutes of stalking the male yielded good photos for this species (see attached) and great views albeit slightly through the undergrowth.
