I have just spent a relaxing week with friends on the south coast at a
place immediately south of Malua Bay (S of Bateman's Bay).
I didn't do a lot of birding but managed to pop out for about an hour each
morning.

Highlights were:

2 vocal male SCARLET HONEYEATERS in allocasuarina fringing 'Barlings
Swamp' near Tomakin. Water levels were too high for crakes/rails etc.
an AZURE KINGFISHER in mangroves near the bridge over the Tomaga River
   at Tomakin.
4 TOPKNOT PIGEONS, including 2 juvenile birds, and a female GANG-GANG
COCKATOO, 3 WONGA PIGEONS and an OLIVE-BACKED ORIOLE all along the
Banksia Walk at Burrewarra Point (Guerilla Bay turnoff along Beach Rd).
   2 WHITE-HEADED PIGEONS and a family group of 6 VARIEGATED FAIRY-WRENS,
including 2 dependent young, in our garden at McKenzies Beach.
a BLACK-FACED MONARCH in rainforest patch at Rosedale.
Several WHITE-CHEEKED HONEYEATERS and over 20 LITTLE LORIKEETS feeding
in flowering eucalypts, plus 2 PEACEFUL DOVES, female LEADEN FLYCATCHER
and a dozen DUSKY WOODSWALLOWS, including dependent young, all along
   Percy Davis Drive (near Broulee).
6 BAR-TAILED GODWITS, 2 PIED OYSTERCATCHERS and an EASTERN CURLEW in the
   Tomaga River Estuary.
a SOOTY OYSTERCATCHER at Broulee Island Nature Reserve.
20+ WHITE-THROATED NEEDLETAILS flying low over McKenzies Beach on 28/1.
A single bird on 29/1. And some 30 birds on 1/2. Conditions were
overcast, warm, with no wind on each day.

Cheers
