On the long weekend

At Chakola, a CVA camp on Mt Scanzi Rd near Kangaroo valley town we saw a black faced monarch, leaden flycatcher, 2 lewins honeyeaters, satin bowerbird, olive backed oriole, 8 sitellas, sacred kingfishers, yellow robin with dy, brush cuckoo, brown cuckoo dove, a lyrebird, rufous and golden whistlers. Swamp wallabies. Sugar glider and brush tails, lace monitor.

Tallowa dam- 3 sacred kingfishers, azure kingfisher, 2 lace monitors, flocks of yellow tufted honeyeaters (~20).

Kangaroo river- floating down the river on canoes (I recommend for anyone) 3 dollarbirds, a black faced monarch, saw about 5 white faced herons, an azure kingfisher, a catbird, many satin bowerbirds. 2 hobbys chasing a much larger bird with white underneath two central tail feathers darkish grey, next two light grey, a white head but slightly darker stripe near eye, I couldn’t see its back. Round tail and very broad roundish wings. It was circling for a long while. I have checked my books and nothing matches, perhaps a juvenile sea eagle.

Minnamurra rainforest- at least 3 lyrebirds, 1 yellow throated scrubwren, satin bowerbirds, wonga pigeon, lewins honeyeaters, some brilliant large blue butterflies, catbird. Hundreds of Homo sapiens.

Robertson rainforest- a 5ha remnant rainforest, there were satin bowerbirds, black faced monarch, a lewins honeyeater, yellow robin, 2 rufous fantails, brown gerygone.
