Sorry these questions arise:
 
Before trying to answer whether it is unusual: What do you mean by "the CR/SP thing"? As in what is the "thing" are you asking about?
 
I would not expect these two species to associate much. They are a very different in size, shape and habits.
 
I would think it a Swift Parrot a most odd sighting in Canberra at this time of year. Why did it "seem to be a Swift Parrot"? What other species have been considered and why ruled out? I hope it isn't embarrassing to ask if it was just a juvenile Crimson Rosella which are after all, more or less similarly coloured (mostly green with bits of red on head and belly).
