High density can be achieved in a way that wins all round, and for
the life of me I can't see why Canberra is so antagonistic towards
the large condominium concept. A few tall condominiums with
excellent facilities and, most important, spectacular large gardens
and recreation areas around it. I lived in one of these in KL and it
was a fine lifestyle. While not for everyone, great views, shops and
facilities within the complex make it not just viable but enjoyable
as well as energy efficient. I couldn't count the number of car
trips I saved by using the in-house mini-supermarket. The birds in
the extensive gardens were spectacular, if unknown.
The Bush Capital is a concept that needs updating, we just can not go
on spreading in such a profligate fashion. And large discrete houses
on small blocks is IMHO one of the worst options for increasing
population density.
