Hello Coglisters
I noticed that someone in the latest edition of the Canberra bird notes was seeking the possible whereabouts in Australia of a population of feral junglefowl. Not sure if they were thinking continental Australia, but Norfolk Island has large numbers of them. Not sure of the genetics, but someone collected some samples a while ago, so there may be more information available on that. They are almost certainly a major problem in terms of what they eat and the fact that, in disturbing the leaf litter layer, they are altering soil hydrology. Islanders also value them because they are believed to help clear army caterpillars from pastures. The park management has a policy of cooperating with researchers and would certainly be helpful. I am happy to broker an approach.
Con
