Marnix has mentioned that there seem to be several Brown Songlarks around this
year. There was a Brown Songlark singing strongly at about 7.15am on Sunday
2nd December in the paddock full of Patterson?s Curse on the way down to the
Red-backed Kingfisher site at West Macgregor. I have previously noted Brown
Songlark over near the Holt pony club.
The water in the creek had subsided by at least half a metre on the previous
day, and Fairy Martins were inspecting the bank, presumably with a view to
starting nesting again. A single Red-backed Kingfisher (male, I think) was
also inspecting the bank. A distant RBK was calling.
The pair of Rainbow Bee-eaters is still present; Red-browed Firetails were
carrying long grass stalks into a bramble patch where two nests appeared to be
under construction; one Zebra Finch, Brown Falcon and Little Eagle were other
notables.

Frank Antram
