Just a note on the 3 Great Egrets at Kelly Swamp this morning.  One has the most striking example of the ‘green face’/solidly black bill that I think I have seen.   This is supposed to be the breeding condition.  However it is E1 (I think the bird there first, from a few months ago) that has the non-breeding bill but the best display of nuptial plumes.  E3 is possibly a juvenile bird.  Incidentally they seem to be feeding mainly on dragon-fly larvae and small yabbies.
