In addition to 2 Horsfield's bronze cuckoos just North of the
Jerrabomberra wetlands silt trap, I also saw two sacred kingfishers
entering and leaving a hollow in a willow over 7 times. One of the
kingfishers caught a cicada and spent about 10 minutes trying to swallow
it. The cicada seemed to be twice as wide as the kingfishers gape. Also
present were new Holland honeyeaters, a greenfinch, about 13 reed
warblers, 3 purple swamphens, and 2 male cisticolas calling from the
tops of trees. Flying over were a great cormorant and darter, a rainbow
bee eater which circled overhead for a while- offering great views, and
a whistling kite (which flushed 120 galahs). I recorded about 49
species.
