I found some GBS data that looked as though it might correlate with rainfall and couldn't find an obvious dataset on the net so asked the Bureau of Meteorology what they had Since others might be interested in doing some investigations along those lines I attach the reply I got from them.
To save others time I have also attached the result of a few minutes cutting and pasting of monthly rainfall data for Canberra Airport from the BoM site for the years 1981 to 2007.
Unfortunately the comparison of the GBS and rainfall data gave a correlation coefficient of 0.03! That is about as close as possible to "no relationship"!

The attached PDF outlines how you can access these data free of charge from our web site. Unfortunately you can currently only access one year of data at a time.
Alternatively these data can be extracted from our archive for a fee - $17.00.
Our current charges are based on the following: Simple jobs where the client provides a list of stations, and the elements and parameters required are accessible via our standard suite of extraction software, are charged at the minimum price of $17.00; More complex jobs where we have to compile a list of stations to suit the clients general spatial requirements are charged at $30.00; Jobs that require data for all sites or all periods of record, and jobs that require dedicated scripts to perform non-standard extractions are quoted separately based on the time taken to complete the request. Full-time students are entitled to data to the value of $30.00 free of charge (providing it is not in relation to funded projects).
The above cost apply to responses via email. Additional charges for responses via alternate means are advised on request. Payment can be made with AMEX, VISA, Bankcard, Mastercard (we do not accept Diners Club) or by cheque (data is not available until cheque is received in Data Services). Cheques should be made payable to "Collector of Public Monies" and sent Attention Climate Information Services Please advise if you wish to proceed with this request. regards Webclim
