Something similar to this happens not infrequently - although never to us, we believed the warning signs - in one part of Jamaica Bay NWR in New York (the place near Kennedy Airport I mentioned in my recent chat).  The differences are:
  • no-one turns up with a hovercraft to pull you out; and
  • its rather embarrassing spending 90 minutes on the subway to get back home!
