For each year for the last at least 15 years I
have had either Australian Ravens or Pied Currawongs (sadly more often the
latter, and never both) nesting in the big Eucalypt in my back yard or the
neighbour's (the neighbour's tree died over the last summer and has recently
been removed). One year I found both raven chicks at a stage almost grown up and
ready to fledge, dead (obviously) and headless under the nest. The cause is
still a mystery. I wouldn't have thought this was due to Currawongs, though it
could be, as there was no sign of the young birds having been eaten (apart from
the missing head).
