I have been tracking three crested pigeon nests. Two failed and in the
third the young have just left. Could it be two young nearly ready to
leave the nest?

Howdy All,
I'm hoping that this won't be regarded as a stupid question or
observation, but it is something I found unusual and wanted to share
with the group and see if others had noted it as well? I'm hoping it
isn't something that everyone else already knows about and feel is
obvious ......
I discovered today that we have a pair of crested pigeons nesting in
our Pittosporum in the back yard. Not a very thick tree, so quite
easy to see once you look up and realise it is there. Probably a
fairly common event around the place but I was intrigued by the
nesting behaviour...... both birds were sitting on the nest, one
facing each direction side by side. Checking a couple of times during
the day they were both there each time, always facing the opposite
direction to each other but obviously moving from time to time as
their tails were pointing in different directions each time I
checked. Is this "pair sitting" behaviour normal? I haven't noticed
it in any other birds before, but I am not much of a bird watcher and
don't hunt out nests etc. The nest is high enough that there is no
way I can check whether there are eggs and how many there would be. I
am wondering if the nest isn't yet established properly and they're
both prematurely sitting? Is this normal behaviour?
Thanks in anticipation.
