Hall Horse Paddocks: I was tipped-off about this small, but great site,
which is one of only a few sites in the ACT that is flowering well this
year. Birds I saw (14th Oct)  included: sacred kingfisher; a dollarbird;
pallid cuckoo, collared sparrowhawk; 2 common bronzewings, noisy
friarbird, and even a white-throated treecreeper on a nest. The site is
off Victoria St (the main street in Hall) driving West past the last
house- it is on the South side. There is an orange bricked fireplace-
the paddock behind there.
Although it's prime flowering was a month ago with leopard orchids
(Diuris pardina) and yam daisies (Microseris lanceolata) already
finished, there were still many flowers. Cute, white flowering Daphne
heaths, yellow flowering urn heaths, billy button daisies, and scaly
buttons, heaps of amazing trigger plants, and still some purple
Indigofera, Hoveas, Glycine and Hardenbergias. Flowers were as far as
the eye could see.

I also visited Hall woodland-Block 27- N of Hall St. It was getting
dark, but still saw grey butcherbird, olive backed oriole, 5 noisy
friarbirds, 1 white winged chough, striated thornbills and white
throated gerygone. Flowers were sparser here, but also with rarer
species, with golden moth orchids, leopard orchids, rare daisies, and
gullies covered by killer sundews. Bulbine lilies about to flower, and
some common daisies were also on the verge.
