Finally got out to Kelly's this morning and staked out the fallen willow.
Unfortunately I attracted the attention of the bulls in the paddock, who
stood a metre from my shoulder while I looked down the gully. First
things I saw were a pair of AUSTRALIAN SPOTTED CRAKES, but then I saw a
LEWIN"S RAIL! It wasn't great views, so I hung around and it returned 20
minutes later, walking down the middle of the channel towards me!!! Great
views and two very (very, very) dodgy photos!
Also today, three SHARPIES, 2 BLACK-FRONTED DOTTEREL, lots of LATHAM'S
SNIPE (no Painted), 2 GLOSSY IBIS, 1 GREAT EGRET (looking very handsome),
my first RAINBOW BEE-EATERS for the season and some ducks and water-hens
and various LBB's.
But a Lewin's Rail is a long overdue tick for me!!
Thanks to Stuart Harris for helping me find the bird,
Stuart
