Last year I set out to
attempt a Big Year within the geographical
boundaries of the ACT. When I started out on 1 January I was not aware
of any
previous attempt at a Big Year in the ACT and so I chose 200 species as
an
arbitrary and but probably unobtainable goal. I achieved this target in
early October
and ended the year on 208 species for the ACT.
I now pass the
baton of ‘Uber twitcher’ to Milburn
who not only reached 200 in last August, more than a month ahead of me,
but
this week passed my record and reached 210 with Black-tailed Native-Hen
and
Masked Woodswallow. With a number species still achievable, I am sure
Milburn
will be closer to 220 by the new year.
Congratulations
Milburn on an extraordinary and outstanding achievement.

Alastair
