That sounds fair enough. (I wonder if any young
birds out now are actually last year's chicks). However there are also various
reports from all over the place, of adult cuckoos associating with and sometimes
feeding dependent young cuckoos. That is the young are dependent on the
foster parents. It appears that the instinct of adult birds to feed begging
young is nearly but not 100% lost in cuckoos, as they still sometimes do
it.
