Alastair's description of Kelly's Swamp sounded so tempting that once I had finished the day's chores I ventured over there. The Sharp-tailed Sandpipers were very hard to locate but persistence paid in the end. I saw two adults still with vestiges of alternate plumage. As dusk was approaching I decided to check out crake alley but without success. I then sat quietly on the bank between the Bittern (why not Ixobrychus?)and Cygnus Hides. In spite of the fact that a large dog (sorry I'm a birder not a dogger) was creating mayhem by chasing rabbits, ducks and swamphens I was lucky enough to observe 1 Baillon's Crake, 1 Lewin's Rail and 1 Spotless Crake (all adults).
