Like yesterday: I went out again many times
throughout the day for quick checks on the White-fronted Honeyeater with no
success until late. This time I did not worry about it having gone (because of
yesterday's experience). For the first time, at about 5.30 p.m., I found it
in the Grevillea but it flew straight out
and over my house roof and into the very big Eucalypt in my back yard and again
appeared to be feeding by probing about in the loose bits of bark and at
the joins of branches. It was calling ("toc") again.
It is using the Grevillea a lot less, I think the
issue is that with more bees in there, due to warmer weather they keep it away
or remove most of the nectar. By late afternoon the Grevillea has been in
the shade for a few hours and the bees go away and so the bird returns there in
the late afternoon. It is now feeding more either from somewhere else (all the
big blossoming deciduous trees, other natives or more insects). So the bird has
changed its behaviour but is still being sort of predictable. I don't know where
it has been for most of the last few days. Obviously not very far
away.
