I thought there might be a photo op of a great crested grebe so
shlepped my tripod right around Lake G today.  Nada.  Is there a
"painted" subspecies of GCG?

The nankeen night heron roost was thoroughly checked and was devoid of
that species.  Theer was a large nest in the top of one of the
whistling pines (since I don't know if they are casuarinas or
allocasuarinas I thought the East African collquial name would cover
both).  My suspicion is that it might be white-faced heron, but I
couldn't see any birds in it..

I did hear my firdt reed warblers of the season calling in the reeds .
