As the weather seemed reasonable this morning I decided to do a ride
through a few of the less well reported squares around the Molonglo
flood-plain area.
The weather deteriorated and was actually similar to that which made
me emigrate from the UK. However I covered 5 grid squares in about
20km, to the extent possible from public roads.
In total I recorded 30 species, mainly those one would expect in
farmland. It was nice, aurally, to have Skylarks checking out the
clouds. The most exciting area was the short stretch from the Rossi
turnoff in square T18. At the start of the road I found a Southern
Whiteface hanging out with some Yellow-rumped thornbills. Richards
Pipit was in the paddocks and at a point where I could down into a big
dam on Foxlow Station I saw a male Musk Duck in the dam.
Some Survey sheets will be submitted in due course.
