If its primary feathers were very worn now (as in winter) then I would suggest it  was a first year bird ( or unlucky). A young fledged in early spring would have 9 to 11 months wear whilst adults generally do complete moult in Feb-March hence 4 mths wear.  I guess the nature of the wear is a factor as well. It could have just been in a lot of skirmishes with larger cousins resulting in a few clippings or just the general abrasion/wear expected over time if it had been 9 months since moult.

Your point however is not lost on me!

[canberrabirds] ANBG: Little Wattlebird





The Little Wattlebird was performing beautifully this lunch time in
its favourite  Banksia ericifolia in section 28 of the ANBG.  It is
unbelievably tame and with its worn feathers would undoubtedly be
branded as an escapee if it were a finch or a parrot.
