Three seen hawking on the NW end of Cooleman Ridge late this afternoon, my first winter record here in 30 years.  Though this species seems to be overwintering in increasing numbers my understanding is that most are in central Canberra at lower altitude, and often near water (LBG/Jerrabomberra).
 
What a topsy turvey season we seem to be having, with the continuing presence of the rarer, but very few of the regular honeyeaters that may overwinter, at least in my patch.
