I have often aired the view that looking for rare birds is an
activity based solely on having a little harmless fun (carbon
footprint aside that is). However, I believe that the spate of
observations of bird species that have been found in the ACT (and
environs) over the last several years that have rarely, if ever, been
observed previously is a clear symptom of extreme environmental
stress. It is difficult to find a lighter side to that situation.
There has clearly been a major influx of many species into the ACT in
recent weeks and I also have the impression that many have been
utilising the suburban environment to a very significant degree.
Just as well really given the current rate of conversion from rural
to suburban environments.
Don't let the frost bite.
