From my pottering in the back yard at first light this morning to nearly dark, on every occasion that I have been outside today I have observed Silvereyes heading north. As John Layton observed yesterday, all that provided an observation opportunity appeared to be lateralis. There was a substantial influx in April over a protracted period but this was the largest number that I have observed in a single day. Each flock that I was able to count numbered around thirty birds and flocks were flying over every couple of minutes. Even though I spent most of the day indoors working, so my approximation is extremely crude, I estimate the flux at about a thousand birds per hour. I agree with John that this seems rather late by normal standards. Perhaps winter is just around the corner?
