Not much of a deterrent. Just another minor cost to land clearers and
developers.

Subject: Killing of rare parrots - charges to beheard
in Robinvale maistrates Court (Vic) on May 22
A few years ago Mark Holdsworth valued Orange-bellied Parrots at
$35,000 apiece. Ignore CPI, and give the Regents a (conservative)
price tag of 20 grand each - 40 of them adds up to $800,000. These
blokes were fined a total of $1500, which works out at $37.50 a bird.
What a bargain!
