They look very much like farmyard geese
which are derived from the Greylag Goose, Anser
anser. This species turns up fairly regularly around larger water
bodies close to the bigger cities and towns, eg there were several for a few
years on Gum Swamp near Forbes. They are common as a farmyard bird on many
small holding around the local area.

Subject: [canberrabirds] Canberra birds - some
info please
Could anyone
tell me something about these birds I saw swimming on the Queanbeyan river
yesterday please? They were swimming with geese and ducks but some have a very
pronounced lump on the top of their heads and some also a lumpy throatline.
