They look very much like farmyard geese which are derived from the Greylag Goose, Anser anser. This species turns up fairly regularly around larger water bodies close to the bigger cities and towns, eg there were several for a few years on Gum Swamp near Forbes. They are common as a farmyard bird on many small holding around the local area.

Could anyone tell me something about these birds I saw swimming on the Queanbeyan river yesterday please? They were swimming with geese and ducks but some have a very pronounced lump on the top of their heads and some also a lumpy throatline.
