This morning Graeme Clifton and I went for a familiarisation trip down Woolcara Lane and Spring Creek Trail in Yanununbeyan National Park.

Birding was initially rather quiet althought a pair of Australasian Shovelers on a small dam just after entering Woolcara Station were nice.  A few kilometres down the track we encountered a very noisy flock of mixed honeyeaters (white-naped, white-eared, brown-headed, fuscous and yellow-faced plus noisy miner) with some other passerines.

Near the end of Spring Creek trail we saw (and particularly heard) a noisy friarbird and shortly thereafter a superb lyrebird scampered across the trail.  It didn't burst into full song but did brief mimicry of satin bowerbird and laughing kookaburra.  According to a resident there are lots of lyrebirds in the area.

As we drove out we saw at least 3 and quite possibly 4 wedge-tailed eagles.

Thanks to Graeme for showing me this area.
