Today (again in the course of duty - or least commerce) I walked the
spine of BRNP for the first time. Very dry of course and skeletal soils,
but excellent post-fire recovery and great views to both E and W. Sthn
Whiteface (which I'm always pleased to see locally) and 3-4 needletails
at one point; surely doing their very final stock-up before the Big
Flight. All morning HEs going over (mostly Yf, with a few Wn), in flocks
from ~10 to a couple of hundred. To the south they seemed to be just
passing over, W-E, but further up they were probably in part moving down
the range.
A happy birding long weekend all!
